The 'wasitfree' website was created to represent the interests of customers of 1&1 Internet Ltd (Schlund and Partners) who feel they have been illegally 'relieved' of their money by the company in question.
Background
In late 2004, 1&1 Internet Ltd offered to its customers up to 25 'free' .info domains. What was not made clear was the length of the contract - and if the domains would then be charged for at re-registration.
In fact, the domains remained 'free' for just 1 year. 1&1 Internet Ltd began charging for the domains in 2005 and this caught-out some of its customers.
Automatic rebilling (no manual option was permitted by 1&1 Internet Ltd), cancellation system faults, credit card discrepancies, legally-dubious activities by 1&1 Internet Ltd, all contributed to the making of a campaign by disgruntled customers to get back funds they consider 1&1 Internet Ltd has stolen from them. Anger also exists at the attitude of 1&1 Internet and their knee-jerk reaction to unfairly threaten customers via their debt-collectors.
In 2006, the legal campaign will begin in earnest!
But it seems that 1&1 Internet Ltd's dubious activities are beyond compromise or offer. It remains to be seen how much this company is punished for its deplorable relations with its customers and its abuse of fair trading principles.
